Red Nail Polish
From ancient times, women (and yes, even some men) have turned to cosmetics to improve their appearance. Nail varnish, too, comes under the cosmetics family and as its name suggests, is used to beautify nails, be it finger nails or toe nails, as the case maybe.
Red nail polish has held a particular appeal to many, over the years. For instance, in Ancient Egypt, henna and even blood, was used to color one’s nails; giving nails that much sought after reddish-brown hue.
Those who favor red nail polish need not fight shy of their preference. They are in esteemed company; as both, Queen Nefereti and Cleopatra are supposed to have used a bright red hue to color their nails, which was said to be indicative of their social standing.
Red nail polish (along with its softer toned counterparts), are generally made up of Nitrocellulose which is dissolved in solvent. To this mixture, film forming agents, plasticizers, stabilizers, thickening agents and coloring are added to get the desired result. It is indeed a cocktail of chemicals, and may at times be unsafe for use, especially in the case of asthmatics or in the case of patients that are subject to severe allergic conditions.
Those who wish to wear a certain red dress with matching shoes and handbag, may even take that extra step and wear red nail polish, in order to match the afore-mentioned outfit. However, red nail polish goes with an array of colors, be it a white outfit, a black dress or a yellow pant-suit, thus increasing its popularity with women who like to be well-groomed but who are pressed for time and are thus unable to reapply nail varnish with every new outfit they don.
Some individuals hesitate to wear red nail polish on the basis that the color does not complement their skin tone. However, it must be re-iterated that there are many shades of red, be it scarlet, light red, or a red tinged with brownish overtones, and one is bound to suit the skin tone of the wearer, if enough effort is put into seeking that perfect, red nail lacquer!
There are many suppliers who have red nail varnish on offer. Some are highly reputed brands available only at high-end stores, whilst others can be found at most departmental outlets, at a reasonable price.
The appeal of red nail polish is thought to be the fact that it is a traditional color which never goes out of style. This is largely due to the fact that it manages to combine modernity with tradition, with surprising ease.
Red is said to be the color, symbolic of love and passion. It takes a confident individual to wear red nail polish with aplomb, and a surprising number of people are willing to give it a try, as many a beautician will testify!
